The demonstration vehicle lacked any such markings. Which prompted the question, a bit taken back by his answer. He see's a cyclists as someone willing to "Crash For Cash"!

Are we really that bad on the roads?

No, but the motoring public would like to think so, because it partly assauges their feelings of guilt over how they treat cyclists in general.

I must be thick or summat because I have re-read this several times and I still don't understand what it is saying? :wacko:

It is a most cryptic couple of lines that without any additional point of reference appears to be meaningless drivel that attempts to further stir up the them'V'us hatred that many revel in!

Yes, I don't get why he is being circumloquacious. Which national company? Which local operations? Where did he say it? Why not a link?

Which national company: Does that matter, given that they're a national transportation company? But to satisfy your desire to know, First.
Local Operations Manager = Person overseeing the day to day operations of the company locally. Clue to that part is the word "local" in the job title. That part should have been obvious to anyone.
Where was it said: Russell street, last Thursday. At a public display of the new type of buses we can expect to see. Which has a rear exit, something that hasn't been seen on a service bus in this area since the 70's. In effect it'd be something new to most people. Current fleet vehicles have the warning on the rear about passing down the left-hand side and attempting to pass the vehicle if its moving away from the kerb.

Please tell me how to include a link, to a question put verbally which received a verbal answer? Not yet mastered that part.

How can I be evading the question when, upto now, what was said was said in the opening post?

although one of the replies might have been a bit more pooey than needed, the thing is, we're not sure what your story is about as you've missed the background .

Presumably something about van doors and and unsatisfactory reply - well Ok but we're not really any the wiser

You went to some trouble not to say what the company was etc. It would have been much clearer if you'd just stated the name of the company. I, like @Profpointy assumed you meant a van, so was totally confused about what specific warning sign is required at back of a van. Now I see it's a bus, that makes more sense.

Basically, I struggled to understand what you were getting at, when by being more specific I could have had a clearer idea. I'm still left with reading this as "Someone who works for some company said something stupid".

(and the new routemasters don't have a sign about the rear door, as you can see the passengers waiting to disembark from behind. Is it this design, or something else?)

Cheeky sods! A bus tried to pull away when I was level with it only yesterday. Maybe their drivers ought to look and indicate before pulling away!

You didn't even say it was a bus in the first post? Without any additional qualification your OP could be construed as just another trouble stirring anecdote. There is enough of this carp going on with out cyclechatters entering the melee.

I often wonder why people who post these type of things are ambiguous about who said it and who do they represent, etc. Im from Yorkshire where we call a spade a shovel. I wish everyone could do the same.

Id like to know who made these comments so I can contact the boss of the Company and tell him what a Dick his operations manager is.

I presume that putting high viz stripes on back of said vehicles will avoid a heap of deformed cyclists littering the highway behind it.
I was up the ladders painting our house when a lad cycled past. He was watching me and I was watching him , bang straight into the back of a parked VW Beetle, laughed.
PS. where I come from we call a spade a steel shod agricultural digging implement.
 
I thin k I've got it, someone from a bus firm reckons cyclist crash on purpose? And was he asked upon which he bases his assertion? I've never heard of an example, because it's a bat crap crazy suggestion.
