I have the opportunity to ride home from the Czech Republic, over to the East near the Slovakian border.
Checked CGOAB and there's not really anything close, is there a reason for this ? Buit-up nightmare, main roads, hills ?
Works out to about 800 miles, have about ten days to do it.

Was thinking of straight through the middle of Germany, then either North through Holland to the Hook, or straight on through Belgium and to Ostend.
Don't have long to sort it so just wondered if anybody had any quick thoughts ?

I've cycled through Slovakia although from north to south. It was good cycling and I can't think of any particular problems I encountered.

Head for the Danube, Linz, in Austria and then follow up to the Rhein then to the Hook of Holland (flat all the way)

cheers Guys, been looking into this a bit more. I reckon if i head for Prague and pick up the Elbe cycle route i can get a good bit of the way to Den Haag, will let you know.

I cycled Linz(A) to Prague and then along the Vltavou to the Elbe - and then Elbe to Hamburg and North - coming home my track from Berlin crossed the Elbe again just north of Magdeberg on the way to Hoek

The Vltavou and Elbe out of CZ is easy enough and quite interesting - The Elberad(s) are easy to follow but can be a bit inefficient on miles - it is all easy enough cycling - no nightmares although i delibretely avoided the Ruhr - there are plenty of quite interesting cities on the way

Thanks for the suggestions all. I'm a bit pushed for time as i have to be back at work in Birmingham ten days after leaving the Czech office, so looking like ~80-90 miles a day.
Not the leisurely tour i'd like, but too good an opportunity to miss.

I followed that route from Hamburg to Prague a few years ago, and enjoyed it. The route crossed the river several times by ferry, which I enjoyed, but might not be so good if you are trying to achieve a high daily mileage.

Take a few short cits across the boring bits by train and get the milage down to about 50 miles per day, then it will become fun

Also to gain an extra day, take the night ferry from the Hoek

+1

Take your time across CZ - particulaly Prague maybe as far as Dresden along Vltavou and Elbe - then maybe train across to Rhine - Up Rhine for a while then scuttle for home?

The ElbeRad can be a bit slow above Dresden -- is OK if you have time and curiosity - Rhine I have only cycled below Strasbourg but I lived next to it when I was a kid and remember as being interesting
