Can anyone recommend a D lock for my bike?
I don't want to spend too much on it (probably max £50) but I need to upgrade from the combination cable I currently have.
I mostly just leave my bike at work and it is reasonably safe, only staff will be aware that the bike rack is there. So I could leave the lock on the bike rack at work.
Am also thinking of getting insurance for the bike so I need an approved lock.

What are the approved locks?

Koo bikes have good deals on locks at the mo, and you can get a fiver off code if you sign up for their newsletter

I'd get one of these, will be in budget give or take with the discount code.

Abus granit x the other option, but may struggle for £50

I prefer a longer shackle as easier to attach to different, awkward places, but make sure it's not locked near the ground

I use an Abus Granit x plus 54, very good reviews on bike radar, sold secure gold rated and not too heavy..

I have a kryptonite lock, not sure of model but it was £45. If your leaving it at work how about a beefy padlock and chain?

Most breaches of D locks are done with an internal jack.

Buy one that is as small as possible for your application to leave very little internal space when the bike is locked.

Easier for you because you appear to be locking the bike in the same place.

Two tips,

I have an old set of bars called "Bad Bones" basically a metal bar with a sealed ring at either end. Place over the lock and slide into the gap, then lock as normal

Secondly unless specifically designed most bottle jacks either fail or have less pressure when in a horizontal position. If you can lock with the u lock in that orientation, it makes the task more difficult
