Dover 2 Durness.

Landing at Stansted, this could be a better option for us.

Has anyone ridden it and if so your input would be appreciated.

I think that @Flying Dodo has ridden it.

Durness to Dover. 800 miles in 8 days on the basis we were going downhill, so it would be easier that way. And I think it was. Tailwind almost all the way, but the route we did would work both ways. It was just logistically easier to hop on HS1 in Dover to be home in less than a couple of hours.

When I'm back in front of a PC, I'll fill in the gaps.

Well, there you there - couldn't have put it better myself. Five and a bit years ago..................

Virtually all of the route went as planned, apart from sticking to A roads south of Edinburgh to shorten the route, and the next day finding part of the planned route was actually a dead-end through a new business park rather than the road that Google had showed, meaning a detour.

I've got the gpx routes if you want. When planning the route I basically worked on around 100 miles per day as an average, and tried to find a decent size town at around that distance, to then find accommodation. In Scotland, when ringing around in January for the planned date in June, often my 1st & 2nd choice preferred B&B would say they were fully booked and had been for months. And that was before I mentioned being a cyclist, so clearly the popular places go quickly.

We each carried one pannier with 3 lots of cycling clothes which we washed overnight, which worked fine, as they'd dry on the bike. Midges weren't really an issue. And everything generally went very well, so afterwards there wasn't anything I would have really changed, as the route was just about as good as possible.

I rode the D2D 5 years ago, Started at Durness, having travelled up to Durness from down South using the Night sleeper and then the Bike bus from Inverness, It took me 3 weeks, as I used in Scotland a lot of off road tracks and old roadways, and was camping mostly with just a few nights in B&B. It was a interesting exercise, I had planned to ride the Gaick pass from Kingussie to Dalnacardoch Lodge on the A9, however I was warned off by a local guy as the river at the ford was in spate.
