A grittier, tougher Dad's Army :"origin story". Churchill, worried by threats to Britain's gold reserve, summons "G", head of the Financial Services Authority, a secret branch of MI13. "Find a few good men and protect us at all costs"
G tracks down former maverick city financier, now living in obscurity as a bank manager in Walmington-on-Sea.
"I'll need seven men". We follow his search to recruit the finest minds and toughest fighters of Walmington-on-Sea, then train his men, ruthlessly, for one special mission......

I saw the trailer yesterday, and it had me interested. I loved Dad's army as a child and still occasionally will watch one if I come across it when channel hopping. The trailer had me wanting to see it and I was disappointed to see it wont be in the cinema until Feb!! Normally I don't get that interested in new releases. My only worry is will it live up to my expectations!

Mangotsfield Station on the Bristol Railway Path has a notice which commemorates the fact that Arnold Ridley, the original Private Godfrey, was inspired by an acoustic effect in the area to write the play The Ghost Train. Dads Army was a fave as a kid and still makes me smile. Of course, it's fondly remembered for possibly the funniest gag on TV, the ' Don't tell him Pike' moment.

The movie has a quality cast and I think Mark Gatiss is involved, who was reluctant at first. I hope they get it right!

A few years ago there was a Celebrity Mastermind with the cast of Eastenders. This allowed the notable moment when Ian Lavender stepped up to take his seat in the big black chair and the quizmaster asked "Name?"

I do hope the film lives up to the original series. It will ruin another bit of my childhood if it doesn't.
No it won't. The original will still be there.

My Grandad was in the real Dads Army - by his accounts the new movie has them far too well equipped and professional.
