I don't doubt it and I don't even know why I've never watched it TBH as I'm sure my folks did when I was younger, but it has definitely slipped me by all these years and now holds no appeal for whatever reason

The first 'new' series wasn't great but the second was truly dire. It seemed to morph into some kind of third rate pastiche of the latter years of Last Of The Summer Wine, but with even fewer laughs. And there was barely a Yorkshire accent to be heard - even Granville's son was a Geordie for goodness sake!

Saw it last night and it was okay, nicely reverential to the original but a bit twee with the humour. Michael Gambon is excellent as Godfrey. Worth sitting through the end credits for the out-takes. It's no belly laughs, but more a gentle character piece. Incidentally, anyone passing through Mangotsfield Station on the Bristol Railway Path, there's a piece on the signage about Arnold Ridley, who played the original Godfrey, and the station inspired him to write The Ghost Train play. There you go, Dad's Army & cycling

I only ever caught an episode or so of the original and then I cracked a rib laughing Passing a gallstone has more comedy content. Should be assigned to the dustbin along with last of the summer wine, are you being served, hancock, monty python et al.

Just got in from watching the film, I rather enjoyed it, well made, good performances, charming and very amusing rather than laugh out loud funny.

I went to see it last night with @Rickshaw Phil. It was an ok film, but nothing more than that. Had its funny moments but very laboured for long periods as well.

Michael Gambon stole the show as Godfrey and Toby Jones was good as Captain Mainwaring.

I liked the cast and their performances, just the script was a bit lightweight. It might have been better as a one-off TV film. Dads army was also made into a 1970's movie, which was the done thing in those days for sitcoms. Trouble is in adapting a 30 minute comedy into a 90 minute movie. I hope they make another one with a bit more slapstick in it.

I'll wait till the hype has all died down, And watch it when it comes on the tv, I loved the original can't see this being all that. The remakes never are as good as the originals.
