I ruptured my Achilles climbing, drove 60 miles home, limped round town the next day with the family. Then drove in to work the following day before finally seeing a medical professional about it. Ended up in a cast then had it operated on 2 weeks later.

I tried to ignore a shattered ankle after being knocked off my bike in 2021. I refused an ambulance at the scene and insisted it was only sprained.

It was about twice the size it should have been, burning red hot and in agony by the morning, when I got my Dad to drive me to hospital.

Yes, it's difficult for others to get their head around and think it's just eating a bit too much, but it's much more serious. It honestly feels like a drug to me when I get started. It's nearly always pure junk when I do it too so massive amounts of sugar and fat so it has to have done some damage.

My Dad is the same actually, and has been for as long as I remember. Active, but always overweight, and binge eating unhealthy things.

He's 79 now and very short of breath, but it's due to scar tissue on his lungs from a rare form of CF, and probably nothing to do with diet.

Broke my arm in a hang gliding accident - snapped it completely through just below the shoulder. Arranged to work from home for several months and had a buddy at work who would do any physical work (wiring computers, etc) that was needed. It was just starting to knit back together when the buddy went on holiday, so I waited till my wifes back was turned then drove 20 miles into work and rewired some stuff. Broke the arm completely again changing gear as I exited the motorway on the way back, but managed the last couple of miles to my house before fainting as I walked through the front door.

Just remembered another fell about 20 foot climbing. Landed on my feet a bit shock through my leg but after a few minutes felt ok so carried on climbing. Next morning leg was really stiff so went for an xray told nothing was broken, managed to get a sick note as I worked a building site at the time. Spent the next 3 weeks climbing most days till note ran out, rang work to say I would be back in next week. They said any chance you could milk it a bit and get another sickie as things have gone really quiet.
So off I go to the doctors pretending to limp and ready pretend to be in pain. Doc examined me and twisted my lower leg, I nearly go through the roof in shock and pain.
He says you broke the little bone that supports your calf muscle, they weren’t looking for that when they read your X-ray. You need to take it easy for a few weeks, don’t put much weight on it.

Touch Wood, the only things I have sprained/fractured/broken have been various things in my feet, so I hope my fate never migrates upwards!

*Twilight Zone theme plays*

It seemed perfectly normal at the time. Lots of military guys did it for extra money. It was only years later that stories of Porton Down started emerging. I think I was given the elixia that will keep me alive until I am 160. Its either that or the vodka. 😁

Just looked up injecting yourself with Vodka... It doesn't sound like the most healthiest or safe thing to do, elixir of lif or not!

Deciding to go skateboarding with one of our grandsons to show him how it can/should be done i.e. not in straight lines.
Was going exceedingly well up until I snapped my achilles tendon. That calf muscle is still significantly smaller after 8 years.
