My carbon frame sustained some damage whilst on the bike rack rubbing against another bike.

The damage is evident just above the fork dropout (so it's actually fork damage). The forks have alloy steerer and dropouts (but carbon blades) and it appears that the damage has gone through a very thin carbon layer and into the metal dropout which it is bonded to beneath.

Is this safe to ride? Can't really afford new forks!

If it is the carbon "socket" in black in the example photo below that has been worn to expose the dropout, then if I were you I certainly wouldn't want to ride it until it is either replaced or repaired. I would have thought once that is damaged the tear can grow rapidly causing the dropout liable to part company with the blade.

my forks look slightly different - the amount of 'material' that has rubbed away is quite small to reveal the dropout. Unlike you pic where the carbon is quite thick.

I'm going to keep an eye on it for now - I've laready cycled 200 miles on it before I noticed!
