A good article here on the perils of taking statistics at face value. I know many here are very good at delving into data, however it’s a skill sadly lacking in the general populous (along with critical thinking).

R4’s ‘More or Less’ is also worth a listen as it delves into statistical or numerical claims of the day.

With people bombarded with ‘information’ via social media et al, we could all do with being a bit more data-savvy.

That example shows me that journalists are at least as bad at reporting numbers as the rest of us.

(I also think that a lot of people THINK they're good wiv data, because they're good at arithmetic, and/or can drive Excel. The science of statistics is often still alien to them ...)

Statistics show that 78.56% of people will believe statistics that have been made up.
But.....96.735219% will believe the wrong thing.

If you can get sucked into a shopping bag, fatal bedclothes entanglement is highly possible.
That caught my eye too so I Googled it.

Apart from the many references to cheese consumption, there was also mention of the risk to babies of bedding entanglement. I'd be surprised if many adults suffer the same awful fate though. Maybe a few very sick or frail people?
