Not wanting to revive an old thread here's a new one . A few weeks ago I was partly to blame for cutting this roundabout and a car not giving way to me (or it could be argued that if I'd of gone around the roundabout there wouldn't have been a problem - some disagreed and said I'd of just gone over the bonnet).

Yesterday, I knew this situation would happen again so I made a point of going around the roundabout properly. It was a cyclist who cut me up, so less harmful. I knew he was going to do it so prepared to stop for him a bit on the roundabout (which I did). He did put his hand up to apologise, but I bet he'll do the same next time and just apologise. Though we both got there at the same time, he seemed to know he'd get away with it because I was on a bike - he might have stopped for a car.

So, if I cut the roundabout or don't cut the roundabout, I'll still have to stop for those who pop out at the same time.

Second lady (not really relevant to the old thread) could of done with using some indicators and not stopping, blocking the entire road.

If you get hit going round the RaB as opposed to cutting it off, at least it's one contributory negligence angle they can't use against you...

At 10 seconds in it looks like you both arrived at the RAB at the same time

I reckon you cut off the edge of the roundabout so you would arrive t the same time, thereby getting some footage on your helmetcam to post on here, you definitely seem to "swoop" into the turn to me.

You are a bloody menace on the roads and should be banned. Or at the very least, stop wearing that bloody camera in the hope of catching someone out.

Do you. Well, I couldn't really care what you think. If I wanted some footage for the camera I wouldn't of stopped, but I'd of used my airzound and started yelling. You seem to have that opinion no matter what.

It wasn't posted as a major problem, just posted it to show that both ways people will try to get in front.

Yes, but I don't quite get the argument that if you get there at the same time it's safe for both of you to go. The guy obviously realised he shouldn't have as he put his hand up. I only had to stop a bit, and unlike a car he wouldn't have hurt me that much so it wasn't really a big deal.

It's a minor incident though isn't it?

Yep, it's not something I'm going to loose any sleep over or really think about. I just uploaded it to show that even if you go around that roundabout properly you'd still have to stop for someone going across when (IMO) they shouldn't.

If you both arrive at the RAB at the same time and you are on opposite sides why should you have priority ?

That's true.I was going to type something but then my keyboard started playing up again so I gave up.

Those from the right have priority. As I would be turning right he shouldn't of gone.

When reaching the roundabout you should

  • give priority to traffic approaching from your right, unless directed otherwise by signs, road markings or traffic lights

Notice, it doesn't say on the roundabout, it says approaching from your right. I was approaching from his right.

Sorry I disagree, you were opposite each other and both arrived at the RAB at the same time.

I was on his right, just because it wasn't a right angle, doesn't mean it wasn't the right. You give priority to the right.

I don't quite understand your point....

My point is that you both arrive at the roundabout at the same time and both arrive at opposite points. You are not to his right at this stage so why should they give priority to you at this point ? If you were already on the roundabout then yes I would agree that as you were signalling right then you would have had priority.

What is that strange walkway in the air supposed to be for ?

Is that in the second section? It goes between the walkway around the educational buildings of the UNI (rather than the accommodation) to the art gallery.

His left would have been the way I was going, the only junction on his right was mine. It wasn't on his left. I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree. I was going to show you on Google maps how I'm on his right, but it seems to photo is an old one (as there isn't even a roundabout there )
