As a road user for 35 years, I've seen my fair share of crap driving but this is right up there as some of the worst. This isn't just careless, it's deliberate; but at least you've got a great piece of evidence that nobody can argue with. Helmet cams are fast becoming essential equipment. Best of luck with the letter.

Shocking, some of the worst driving I have seen for a while. Hope he get the book thrown at him, the reckless idiot.

Despite my wordy letter , I've had a response from Arriva as follows :

Dear Dr Magnatom,

I have seen your complaint regarding your journey on one of our Service 59 vehicles which involved an incident with and regarding a cyclist in Govan.

I am investigating this now and will respond to you early next week with my findings.

I am remote from the office and have not yet had the opportunity to view your links regarding the participation in a cycling awareness campaign, I will view these over the weekend.

As a keen cyclist over many years I am acutely aware of the risks and attitudes on the roads so am 'warm' towards this idea and will seek to discuss further once I have read the articles.

Yours sincerely

It really does pay to provide companies with a chance to take part in a cycle campaign whilst sending in a complaint. If we all did this, eventually every bus company in the country would be campaigning with us!

I'll keep you informed...

I don't know why I change my name to Magnatom in the letter, everyone knows who I am...

That's an excellent result, and a point well made. Any time I feel the need to write a letter of complaint (not often, I hope!), I'll do the same.

Another pointer is to always make sure you ignore a companies normal complaints procedure. If you can find an e-mail for a director or something similar send your complaint/suggestion to them. That way it is more likely for them to pay attention...

Yep, absolutely... I never bother with "Customer Care" or "Customer Services" departments as they're largely a waste of space and never read anything properly. I think directors/managers pay a bit more attention because they're more aware of the consequences for the company of having lunatic drivers on the road and neither do they like bad publicity.

That second overtake - I've yet to see a more blatent attempt to intimidate another road user. The driver even pomps the horn as well just to let the cyclist know he's coming regardless, jeez!

Good luck with the company, keep us posted.

Scratch - Those buses have forward facing CCTV (they may have rear as well), so would be worth inviting them to review it. Wouldn't bother with sending it to customer care. Neil Barker is MD, so bung it to him at head office I reckon:

Just to the left of the numberplate. You can see the cover. Possible that the vehicle is fitted with the cameras on the mirrors as well.
Given that you have the time & location & fleet number of the vehicle in question. I'd go down the route magnatom took. Forget local channels, head for the top. There at least it can only be handed down for someone to deal with.

As for getting the names of the directors, go to your local library. Business section & seek out the company information books.

Similar problem, with Arriva in 2001. Got the names, addresses & telephone numbers of the directors. Easily & legally obtained.

Someone on here gave me the name and address of the Managing Director. I've written to him and to the Police. In my letter to the MD I asked him to keep any CCTV from the bus, as the police were involved and they may want to look at it. Whether they actually will or not is another matter!

At the start of September I reported a dangerously driving bus to the police. I got a reply saying that the police had reported it to the bus company but since then heard nothing. I sent a letter via post then a few weeks later by email. No reply. Phoned a few times and the managing director had just "gone into a meeting" each time.

Yesterday I went to the police station for an update. The guy who I delt with wasn't there so a message was left. I emailed the bus company again to show how I was pursuing it. I got an email back within 30 minutes:

***********

Sorry for the delay in responding, but I have only recently returned from annual leave.

Reading your letter and subsequent e-mails, there seems to be no mention of a date or time, where this incident happened or any details regarding our driver/bus or route; which obviously make it very difficult to investigate your serious allegations.

If you could supply the relevant information then I will personally investigate the complaint.

What he'll actually investigate is anyone's guess. Hopefully something will come off it. After 3 months it's the least they can do. I have had a letter of complaint about both the police and the bus companies' handeling off this published in the student newspaper.

If you haven't provided him with the details he mentions, he can't investigate!!

I have emailed him all the details. When I originally posted the letter the situation should of been able to of been referenced by the details I did supply. I'd like to think they don't get that many complaints by the Police.

Have to see what happens next week!
