Don't mention the video though!

From experience there is a nasty trick you can play.....

Complain giving details, and ask for a reply.

Driver normally either denies or gives a different story.

You reply with video proving the driver is a liar as well!

Few managers like being lied to.

I like your style

Whether the pass was close or not, and I reckon that was bloody close, it was within the zig-zags of the crossing and that isn't a matter for the driver to debate.

Despite what the Highway Code might say it's not actually illegal to overtake a moving pedal cycle on the zig-zags.

THE ZEBRA said:
Prohibition against vehicles overtaking at crossings
24. - (1) Whilst any motor vehicle (in this regulation called "the approaching vehicle") or any part of it is within the limits of a controlled area and is proceeding towards the crossing, the driver of the vehicle shall not cause it or any part of it -

  • (a) to pass ahead of the foremost part of any other motor vehicle proceeding in the same direction; or

    (b) to pass ahead of the foremost part of a vehicle which is stationary for the purpose of complying with regulation 23, 25 or 26.
(2) In paragraph (1) -

  • (a) the reference to a motor vehicle in sub-paragraph (a) is, in a case where more than one motor vehicle is proceeding in the same direction as the approaching vehicle in a controlled area, a reference to the motor vehicle nearest to the crossing; and

    (b) the reference to a stationary vehicle is, in a case where more than one vehicle is stationary in a controlled area for the purpose of complying with regulation 23, 25 or 26, a reference to the stationary vehicle nearest the crossing.

  • That doesn't, of course, make the actual overtake any less dangerous.

That was just like mine this morning on this road:

I tend to cycle secondary here as there is normally plenty of room for cars to overtake even travelling at 40-50 mph. Unfortunately this time a lorry approaching from behind at the same time as an oncoming car drawing level with me decided to blast through the gap within inches of me. Instinctively I moved over to the LHS and momentarily crossed the solid line as I thought for a moment I was in real danger.

Normally I hardly ever have problems with motorists.

I'm half wondering if I should get one of these helmet cameras.

Indeed it isn't, and as a rider of bikes and motorbikes, I confess to being a serial filterer but I know when to stop and when I can still make a pass.

However, I'm not a professional driver of a rigid with a drawbar, who needs to be taking a bit more care around other road users.

Awful overtake, I'm very glad you're OK. I reckon at least part of the reason you survived that was because of the right hand curve, had it been a left one, I hate to think what might have happened. Mate, make it public with the rego and Walkers Crisps in the title, report it, and shame the company into taking action against that driver. Actually, I like Cunobelin's approach rather a lot.

I had a complete plank try and take me out today. Not only did this plank try and take me out, but nearly took out the car coming in the opposite direction. I have reported this plank to the police and I am waiting to see what the outcome is. I am wondering should I post the footage up or not?. The clip also contains a lot of profanity and blasphemy. Afterwards I was so cooked up on adrenaline that I was spitting feathers with the red mist starting to kick in.

Anyway a synopsis of what had happened. I was riding along, I had noticed there was the lorry behind me and thought that he would wait till there was a safe spot to pass. This drivers idea of a safe spot was a 5 second gap in the on coming traffic. It was a big enough gap for a car maybe, but a lorry would have had a snowballs chance in hell of being able to overtake safely. As a result I have to brake hard and swerve into the kerb where I nearly get dragged under the wheels. The car coming the opposite direction has to also brake and swerve to avoid being taken out.

When I used to trundle around in my happy wagon, my Company like so many big companies had trackers fitted to their fleet, the results is that whatever I or my wagon got up to was recorded, which allowed the fleet manager to trace where I had been and at what time and at what speed I was doing at a particular place or time. So it is worth contacting Walkers, It might well be that their is fleet is managed by one of the big groups, like TNT or DHL or Eddie Stobbart.

So as someone suggested, I would in the first Instance contact walkers, but don’t tell them about the Video, better to have spare ammo. Try to give then the town or city name, the road name, the time and a postcode of the immediate area . all which will pin down what vehicle and what driver was the culprit.

Very nasty!

I disagree with the post earlier suggesting not to mention the video. To me that is a little underhand and reeks a little of 'entrapment', although that is too strong a term for it.

Be up front from the start. It has worked well for me in the past.

So a guy in charge of a bloody great lump of metal drives in a dangerous manner, I would point out to get a heavy Good Licence is quite hard these days so he has no excuse. And you worry about entrapment.
Death by dangerous driving is not funny. So if entrapment is needed to get him removed from the roads then so be it. Did you know that to use the size and weight of your Vehicle will fail your HGV test, full stop, no ifs or buts it is highly frowned on,. Any fleet manager watching that Video would dismiss the driver without any second thoughts.
