I'd see paint as a hazard to negotiate, I avoid it as studiously as manhole covers in the wet, and I'm careful on both in the dry. I learnt this the hard way too, dropping my motorcycle in the rain at a four-way stop in Fourways in Johannesburg. Slow, embarrassing, and a little painful, and thus probably the best type of lesson.
