I'm thinking of buying a Galaxy and would be grateful for advice on the following:

1) Whilst I appreciate the "less to go wrong" concept of the bar-end shifters I'm wondering how easy these are to use on the road.

2) With an inside leg of 78cm (30.5") it seems I should be getting a 51cm (20") frame according to the Dawes guidelines, but I'm a bit unsure
of this after reading a note on the Spa website which suggests that "due to the geometry of the Galaxy frame" the bikes are large for
the listed frame sizes and that "a 54cm is closer to a traditional 57cm". I note that the Bikes2UDirect website shows a 20" frame
requires a MINIMUM inside leg of 29".

Phone Spa and chat to Andrew. I was a little concerned about the size of a bike I bought from them recently. It was a Sabbath September. A few five minute chats with Andrew the issue sorted. Excellent pre-sales support and the bike has exceeded my expectations.

There's nothing wrong with bar end shifters. You get used to them very quickly and remember, you are riding a tourer and not mixing it in a pelaton readying yourself for a sprint to the finish. I never had any issues with the bar end shifters on my Galaxy and more often than not when I rode one of my STI equipped bikes I used to reach down to the bar end to change gear on the ghost levers.

I recently bought a Galaxy plus from SPA and they were fantastic to deal with. I phoned with my inside leg and height (32" and 5'11") as I was concerned about the sizing. They recommended a 54 which is bang on. I went for the "plus" because it has STI shifters and I didnt want bar end. However that is just a matter of personal preference. The price of a Galaxy or a Galaxy plus from SPA makes them a total bargain. This really is the most comfortable bike I have ever had.

The only way to be certain is to try the bike. On the bar end shifters question, I deliberately specified them on my tourer as I have issues with arthritis in my hands and wrists. I have STI on my road bike which I get along with just fine, but for gentle long distance work, the bar end shifters are superb. The changes are exceedingly slick and easy. The reach from the tops rapidly becomes instinctive.

bar ends are an absolute doddle to use...comfy machine to ride...i love my galaxy, best bike i've ever had and goes like a bomb when you need to...highly recommend you purchase one

I have owned my Galaxy about 4 months now switching from down tube shifters to bar end shifters, very easy and a joy to use.

Highly recommend the Galaxy for comfort of riding and handling.

Had my Galaxy for a couple of years riding it to work and back. Rode all the way to Barcelona with no problems. rode through Europe the next year with not problem.

Great bike. I also had it stolen recently then found it on e-bay.

I now own a Thorn nomad as wanted a more off road tourer.
