I am also suspicious of the size recommendation.

The shop wouldn't be the first to recommend a size because they have one in stock or can get it cheap, rather than because it fits the customer.

You could get away with a bigger bike more easily with an open frame, but as a general point the saddle needs to be about level with the handlebars when set for you riding it.

If the saddle is a lot lower, then the frame is arguably too big, although it's ultimately down to rider preference.

I’m a smidge below 5’10, 33” inside leg and sat on a large Alight yesterday. Right size :okay:
