Dead chuffed with my achievement.

A quick post to say that I've crossed something off of my list of things I wanted to do.

I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself today as I finally felt ready to cycle from Portsmouth to Southampton. I set off on the 25ish mile route I'd planned and arrived almost on time after only one wrong turn, within a couple of miles of my destination (Southampton General Hospital). There was also one near collision as someone pulled out across the whole width of the lane leaving me absolutely nowhere to go except into her nearside rear wing or a driveway (I opted for the latter) and my single most embarrassing cycling incident so far, I pulled up to the advance stop line at the lights near the hospital and fell over. My foot just would not come out of the toe clip so over I went, no amount of leaning the other way helped, although I wasn't that embarrassed I was already laughing before I hit the ground.

Shame I didn't have it in my legs to cycle back, although I did get on the train one stop later than I could and get off one stop sooner then I could have too, so I didn't entirely chicken out.

Well done jon, we all have to start somewhere.

Well done, that is a fantastic achievement!
The only shame being that you probably saved about £0.10 on the train ticket by opting for a single

Thanks guys, I'm kicking myself for not at least attempting the return journey now though. I'll give it a crack next week, now I know the route. 50ish miles will be the most I've done in one day, even if it is in two parts, and will be most of the way to the 66 mile IoW randonee which is my motivation for pushing my distances at the moment.

Don't worry about not doing the return leg this time.
Better to get home wishing you'd done more than returning home wishing to high heaven you hadn't.

Well done I salute you!;)

I've always forgotten to take a bow when I can't get out of the clips.Sort of get up and take a bow to my public.

Just a quick update to say I got the return leg done today, there and back with only some brief form-filling in between. Although I may have pulled some tendons in my knee when I had to plant my foot quickly as some fool pulled out in front of me. At least I got my foot down this time.
