dealing with damp

Bleach will bleach the mould but won't remove it. Bleach degrades very fast so will not give any protection.

Best option is to improve the ventilation and warm the walls up. Best way to do this would be to dry-line the walls and re-plaster, it will make a nicer, warmer kitchen.

If it's not your house or you can't afford dry-lining, buy a dehumidifier. Go and ask on DIYnot.com, they will advise you better than a bunch of cyclists.

ah the good old hide it so the problem " goes away" solution. all this does is keeps the condensation on the inside of the drylined wall.

i will try and find the advice sent to me by a RICS building surveyor a few years back on solving this "damp " problem

Several points: black mould can be toxic and can migrate. Don't assume that you have found it all until you have checked. Don't assume that there is only one source of the damp: check. Protect your lungs when cleaning it off. The cause of black mould is poor air quality: extract steam etc from cooking don't just recycle it.
