Decathlon entry level road bike - what great value!

Agreed about the Stockport branch - I went back there this morning to pick up their £27 set of dumbells (reduced to £19.99 today - great price!) and had a quiet walk around. The store is well managed by competent staff and the bogs were spotless, always a good sign! The mechanics were working away quietly assembling bikes and seemed to be doing it with attention and concentration, also always a good sign. The demo bikes are well set up and correctly adjusted and they don't mind you taking a spin around their spacious store. The sport nutrition bloke was clued up about the products and the science and gave me some useful information. I really got a good vibe from the place.

On the way home I stopped at my LBS and the best entry-level bikes they can offer are a Trek and a Giant, both at £550, both with Shimano 2300 (same as the BTwin) but both with ali forks. So it's going to be the Decathlon bike for Gti Junior.

how much money will you loose on it?it will allow you or your kids to learn more about cycling,so when you want to up grade it will allow you the knowledge,to know what you are requiring,good luck mate

I already know what I require - a cheap bike that will fit him for a couple of years as he grows and makes him feel good but won't matter when he leaves it lying out in the rain, wrecks the drivetrain, falls off or gets it stolen by leaving it outside a friend's house.

Once he's stopped growing and learned to take care of his possessions I will buy him a more expensive bike.

I bought a Triban 3 about a month ago - great bike. Had some problems initially as the bike was set up terribly (went after work so was in a rush and didn't check it over before driving it home - what a wally) but fair play to Decathlon Lakeside, the manger apologised sent a voucher and I took it in to be sorted. The rear derallieur was bent so the guy fixed it up and sent me on my way.

Aye. I had a rack and guards on mine for the first few months. I used clip on guards but it has the lugs for the rack.

Hi there, I'm a complete newbie to all this having never owned a road bike or racer as I used to call them.....I'm very interested in one of these bikes but haven't got a clue what size I would need? .... The nearest Decathlons store is over 100 miles from me so I will probably have to order one on line and get it delivered... I'm 5'10" and My inside leg measurement is 30" ...... Any help would be gratefully received

Thanks for the replies, can't seem to find any information on the Decathlon website....will keep trawling this site for bits of info though.
