Resolution this year is to cycle as many days to work as humanly possible...Over the last two weeks have managed fine but what about tomorrow??? Forecast is heavy snow. Know that if it is actually snowing (will believe it when I see it!!!) then I've got to take the car (don't have studded tyres and 10 mile cycle on unlit roads) but what if it hasn't snowed by the time I leave???
Do I go for it and hope it doesn't snow...or be sensible???
I'm not the sensible type btw but don't want to be stuck 10 miles from home and have to pay for a taxi (I'm trying to save money by cycling!!!)
Any thoughts would be much appreciated (and ribbing about MTFU),

Up to you mate.

I'm not totally comfortable cycling in snow & ice, and even took the train a few times in December during the last cold snap. I'll not be telling anyone to MTFU because it doesn't matter how hard you are if you hit a patch of sheet ice on normal tyres.

I hear you Hip Priest...although the weight of a year long target (wish I'd never set it now) is upon me...the thought of losing more teeth to ice just doesn't seem worth it!!!!

You'll do it man. If you miss a couple of commutes due to snow, you can easily recover the miles in the Spring / Summer.

I'm working from home Monday, but commuting Tues-Thurs.

The MTB with knobblies is ready to go ... but then my commute is 10 miles of main A-roads so it's usually clear

I won't be risking it myself. There's no snow predicted here for tomorrow, but in the next few days temperatures are going to drop to well below zero. My commute is very rural. If I have a slip, I could be a long way from help. Safety first - that's my moto.

I'm going for single speed and 25c tomorrow. As far as I see it's most likely to cut through to the tarmac.

And looking at the forecast for manc, it looks like the temps will stay just above freezing.

Hybrid with semi slicks along the canal tomorrow I think.

I'll be on the fixed on normal tyres tomorrow as usual, unless it actually raining when I leave for work, if its raining I'll be in the car.

Check the Met Office rainfall radar before you leave for work in the morning, this will give you an idea if there are any snow-producing fronts heading your way. Additionally, check the local forecast on the radio/online in the morning to see if any snow is forecast later in the afternoon for your area.
