The support act was a short lived glam rock band called 'Girl'.
I'll have to do more digging to find out where I saw Van Halen. I didn't think it was The Rainbow, but maybe it was.

Van Halen could have been June 1978 when they supported Black Sabbath.

Unlike you groovy (no-doubt sharp-dressed) dudes I didn't see them until they were global superstars, following Eliminator!

But it was quite a cool gig for me: my big sis was wheeling me around with both legs in casts following a nasty car-crash.

More then likely. VH blew BS off the stage every night on that tour apparently. Due to the fact BS were on the verge of splitting and the members all having alcohol and drug problems.

That will explain why I remember Van Halen being so could and had forgotten about Sabbath.
