Why on Earth would you swap a Defy for a Boardman?

Yeah I don't get that comment, I mean I have a Defy and it's brilliant but I don't think the Boardmans are any worse, certainly I see plenty of very happy looking people riding them.

Shame you part exed the Quick - I would have had it back!

Because even the poverty spec Defys are neutral handling, lively, very nicely finished and all day comfortable. You could spend double on a Boardman roadie dripping in bling that still won't tick those 4 boxes.

When Boardman bikes appeared a decade ago they were a revelation. Since then the lower end road bike marked has advanced greatly, and what was once largely in a class of its own is today often out classed, and often by cheaper machinery at that.

What about s Btwin Triban if money is tight? They spend the cash in their designs where it counts - the frame and a halfway capable wheelset - and the result is a businesslike range of road steeds. Much respected around these parts.

I have a colleague in work who has a caad8 54 cm for sale, but will have to sell mine first. He said he is in no rush, but I am , the pain I'm in after my ride on the defy on Sunday, side, back, down my leg, knee, I won't be on that again .

Wouldn't a too big bike given you shoulder and arm ache rather than knee and leg? Put the saddle down and try a shorter stem? How tall are you?

Do you already have pre existing injuries?

Remind me why you got the hybrid in the first place and then sold it?!

I don't know I'm no expert, never ridden a bike that was to big before now,im 5'9" by the way. I got the hybrid because the skyrides were going on off road routes, but now they seem to have changed to more road orientated routes, hence wanting a road bike again.

Cyclist33 has a M/L Defy and you got the Quick off him (I never got my commission but that's fine ) ...why didn't you get his advice on the Defy sizing if you were going that route?

Do you only ever ride on Skyrides? I've done a few and never on a roadbike...the Quick is a speedy flatbar suitable for any ride

If you have a dodgy back, think carefully about the Caad geometry, whatever the size...make sure you take it on a few good long rides before committing if your mate will let you

I didn't remember him having that at the time, anyway the quick has gone now, time for me to sort something out now.

Would it not have been wise to ask for advice on sizing BEFORE getting the bike? Not like a Defy is a rare beast in these parts. Ah well, hindsight eh
