I got a large bottle of degreaser from Screwfix
less than the price of the normal cycle degreaser you get from bike shops in teeny tiny bottles

I use it. Seems just as efficient as Muc-off but obviously isn't as good as it's not pink. Lots cheaper though.

Heating oils not environmentally friendly but use it to both clean and thin out car engine oil to lubricate chains its about 60 pence a litre at present, i do keep the used oil and take it to the recycling centre so do not consider it very bad but perhaps a biodegradable degreaser may be better?

I've used white spirit for the best part of 60 years, it was also recommended by the best bike shop in Friern Barnet, Oscrofts.
