Had someone drive into me, albeit gently, last year - I don't understand why the people are so quick to cast doubt.

Let's face it, you know if someone is doing it deliberately.

I wish I had managed to get the registration plate of the person that did it to me, and would certainly have reported it to the police.

If it stops this person from doing it at least once more then it will have been worth it.

Is it not a bit OTT to claim the cyclist was "deliberately" knocked off his bike?
I am only going by what my friend told me. He said that the car definitely swerved into his path and clipped his handlebars. Witnesses who attended him at the scene also thought it looked deliberate. Again I only have my friends account of this. So far, although the only evidence is subjective what evidence there is points to it being deliberate.

I wouldn't bother reporting this to the filth because in their perverse world you'll, sorry your friend, will likely be charged with criminal damage of the wing mirror, be prosecuted, be convicted, fined and community service. You sorry your friend will then have a criminal record which may mean end of career if it is a line of work where a criminal record is a big no no. Unemployed cannot pay mortgage or feed family. Have to sell bikes and house. On the streets. Disaster. Be thankful you are still alive. If you see the vehicle again try and film it and find out where the owner lives then poor rancid milk in the heater vents.
If it was me I'd say it was me. If you think I'm covering up for some reason just say so rather than couching your suspicions in these silly ways.

Since the police seem powerless to take proper action against aggressive/abusive/dangerous driving, easily the best way of dealing with the driver is to claim against their insurance. If you have their vehicle reg, you can obtain their insurance details after talking with the police.

The downstream impact of a claim on their insurance is the gift that keeps on giving. The driver can whine all he wants, but usually the insurance will just pay out.

I know some one that used to knock cyclists off their bikes, I was even in the car when he knocked one off going through the Rotherhithe tunnel, on the way home from work late at night.
I asked him why he did that, he said should be on the pavement.

Bloody hell.
That is in such a dangerous place to knock someone off a bike, more so then a normal road.

Please tell me that you dibbed him in?
I know it's not nice to dib a mate in.
But your a cyclist, you know the dangers.

If I knew someone that had done that while I was in the car I'd have gotten out of the car immediately, tunnel or not, and reported him to the police. After I'd gone to see if the cyclist was alright and given him all the details I had on the driver.

Sod it not being nice to dib your mates in. They would not be my mate after I'd seen them do something like that so it wouldn't present a problem.

Better to report them, then hear they hurt someone a few weeks later.

I had to do this years ago with a work mate that had a problem with drinking and driving. 4 days after getting back on the road after a 3 year ban he arrived to work with the front end of his car stoved in by a brick wall. He thought it was funny and was obviously still drunk. The boss treated the drunk in work with a final written warning and having him taken home (By me). On the way back to work I stopped off at the police station and reported it. Turns out it was a wall near the local school. What if he'd driven the next day and hit someone?

Do you need friends that act like that? Not me.

While it was a very hard thing to do (report a friend I'd known for 6 years), I was happy that he had been stopped from possibly hitting someone.

Definitely report it to the police. At the very least it's leaving the scene of a RTC.

My friend turned up yesterday looking a bit wet and shaken after just being deliberately knocked off his bike by a car which then drove off. Fortunately he wasn't hurt but he took a tumble in the crappy sludgy wet snow that was everywhere.
There were several witnesses and some one took the number of the car. Also my friend has kept the guys wing mirror as a souvenir/evidence. I have strongly advised him to inform the police and hope that he does but I wonder what, if anything will happen to the motorist if all things are as they appear?
I worry that despite witnesses and the wing mirror that it will be impossible to prove that this was deliberate. Knowing how little people can be punished for taking a life at the wheel I think this guy will get away with virtually no punishment. There can be no way that the driver didn't notice losing a wing mirror though so there is at least hope that he will get stuffed for failing to stop. For all he knows he could have killed my friend so I think the least he should get is a lifetime ban from driving and made to attend how not to be a dangerous git classes.
Anybody got any realistic idea of what the driver might be facing?

If your friend has the reg number http://www.askmid.com/ will check the insurance database to see if the car is covered

One day he'll hit one. Perhaps he should be reported before he ends up killing someone and you'll have it on your conscience forever that you knew what he did but didn't do anything about it.

When I was married, my wife & I reported her Dad for drink-driving. He did it 3 or 4 times a week, and we'd pleaded with him to stop & to get a taxi when he'd been drinking. He ignored us & we couldn't live with the thought that he'd probably end up hurting or killing someone, so we phoned the police.
