Demented in Paisley

Hi all,
I can index my rear derailleur to go up but it wont come down or I can get it to come down but it wont go up. I have fitted new inners and outers and its a new chain, rear freewheel sprockets look O.K.. Any advice would be appreciated please. Thanks a lot

The old cassette, despite looking ok, is too worn to mesh correctly with the new chain. Don't mess about, change it.....

Rusty is right, but try this before splashing out. Adjust the indexing around the middle of the cassette, not in the highest gear, that will give you a compromise between going up and down the gears
