I wear jeans now and then, but only on short rides, say to the shops or the pub. Otherwise it is either jogging bottoms or baggy shorts for medium and lycra for long rides.

I wear jeans or combats on my 6-7 mile commute all the time. I tend to go for the baggy sort (ex skateboarder) so the seams aren't much of a problem. I live in shorts for most of the summer.

I always wear jeans except when going to work - I then wear my office clobber. I've worn jeans on my longest ride yet of 30 miles and felt fine - will re-evaluate if my trips get longer but don't feel the need for special stuff yet.

If I'm already in jeans and need to nip to the shops then yes, I'll go as I am.

But if by jeans you mean denim then denim is not the most practical of fabrics and not recommended for any outdoor activity as it's neither warm when the weather's cold nor cool when it's hot. If it gets wet it's very cold and never dries so can result in hypothermia.

I've never gone in for "proper" cycling garb so often wear jeans. Have worn them for 40 miles without discomfort.

Well, I have worn them for hundreds of miles at a time without discomfort but that was in the car:biggrin:

yes, all through winter and normally spring/autumn too. Think they're the best unless they get wet (hence overtrousers). I find they do keep me warm-ish in winter (keeps the wind off which is the main problem); put a pair of longjohns underneath when it's really nippy.. Also found my Sugoi 'buntoaster' does really work!

Me too

I have a cycling pair of jeans - stretch denim and narrow around the ankles. They don't show oil etc and aren't precious. In wintertime I have been known to cycle 20-30 miles in them. I can fit a base layer underneath (just:biggrin:), though I stopped wearing that about a week or two ago.

I also own other jeans (Fat Face ones seem to fit best) - but generally I like them and don't want to get them mucky and wear out the back side too quickly.

Come springtime the wardrobe expands and its time to bring out shorts, 3/4 trousers, a whole variety of clothes - I far prefer the summer time.

For those with a bit too much money, Howies now make water-resistant jeans. A snip at £95... but then they do have a button fly and a nice map of Cardigan Bay on the back pocket. And no... I don't work for them .

I bought a pair of these and to be honest, you can see where your money is being spent. They are a quality item. Thing is, Howies jeans never seem to fit me right so they had to go back.

they looked promising until I reached the size selection point, XL a 35.5" waist, I think not, that's positively skinny in my book:biggrin:

Don't worry about that - they're what I like to call 'flattering American Sizes' which means that they're actually at least two inches larger than the size stated.

37.5" is still slender in my book, I may order some when I reach that sort of mark:biggrin:
