Hello to all, my name is Jon and I live in Somercotes, Derbyshire with my wife Chris. After health problems in 2012 followed by slow recovery, a secondhand £30 apollo hybrid purchased in Jan of this year started to change my outlook on my life, the old bike gave me the confidence (with self tuition) to ride in public and occasionally ride to work two or three days a week. I enjoy the experience of cycling knowing also that it is helping me progress daily. The old girl has been passed on now at a small profit (the apollo, not Chris} and I have now treated myself to a new Rockrider 5.29 which I now find a doddle to pedal.

I shall on occasion be asking stoopid questions and hankering for advice on maintenance etc.

Pleased to meet you all, Jon.

Welcome to CycleChat, Jon!

I'm one of the CC members who had serious health problems last year and am also now on the mend.

I'm 6 years older than you, and there are some very fit riders on the forum who are well into their 60s, so we can't use age as an excuse for inactivity. In fact, I've met some very fit riders in their late 70s/early 80s!

I looked it up earlier - it is NW of Nottingham, SW of Mansfield, and SE of Matlock!

Ah, a bit further down Derbyshire then! She is from chapel-en-le-frith. I expect her to know everything about Derbyshire, as she expects me to know everything about Scotland ;)
