Descaling a toilet pan

Mumsnet suggested using vinegar which has worked to a certain extent. I scooped out the water and filled the U bend with the stuff, left it for a few hours plus a gentle massage with a pumice stone. Google warns against strong acids which may fume dangerously or attack plastic.
There is a proprietary cleaner with phosphoric acid and alcohol ethoxylate.

Bottle of cola down the pot and leave. Repeat if neccessary.

Yep, coke cleans a toilet better than bleach, but you aren't encouraged to drink bleach.

Cola contains weak phosphoric acid. Better to go and buy a proper acid cleaner which contains hydrochloric, phosphoric, citric or acetic acid and leave it for 24 hours.

Actually any fruit beer will do, flush the lot down the toilet. Even if it doesn't need descaling.

Janitorial supplies sell a toilet cleaner that contains hydrochloric, cleans it in seconds.

Edit: They also sell a mop thing to use with it, or at least they did when i last used the stuff.
