Tutu worked peacefully for the downfall of apartheid in South Africa alongside Mandela winning the Nobel peace prize In 1984.
In his final years, he regretted that his dream of a 'Rainbow Nation' had not yet come true.
His death comes just weeks after the passing of the last South African apartheid president FW deClerk.
President Ramaphosa described him as "a patriot without equal; a leader of principle and pragmatism who gave meaning to the biblical insight that faith without works is dead”.
"A man of extraordinary intellect, integrity and invincibility against the forces of apartheid, he was also tender and vulnerable in his compassion for those who had suffered oppression, injustice and violence under apartheid, and oppressed and downtrodden people around the world."
We won’t see many the likes of him again.

Sad news - not for here but he was active, if political, amongst grassroots communities across South Africa at a time when the SA government were very against it. SWMBO's family were part of those bringing different groups together in the late 70's/early 80's.

It'll be a sad day across SA for many, and in her family as well.
