When I moved from Dartington to the Midlands (don't ask, I still can't make sense of it myself), I was astonished when the only grass growing in the middle of the road was the central reservation.

When I moved from the Midlands to Yorkshire (it made sense to me), I was astonished to find cobbles growing in the middle of incredibly steep narrow roads!

Now, you might think that no self-respecting HGV driver would attempt to drive his/her truck up or down something like that ...

But evidently the locals do not share your faith!

I'm here on holibobs at the mo. I did a quick few miles on the mtn bike yesterday and ended up on a wee lane at the top of the hill. Then a huge bus came along and I realized I was on the main road to Dartmouth.

There is a similar one in Devon that we use regularly. The locals call it the dual carriageway.
