Haha ... i like how some of you are quoting met-office wind speeds. (Like 50mph wind and 70mph gust).
The speeds given in the forecast and often quoted in the news are measured ten meters above ground, and more
importantly in the middle of a wide open raf airfield!!
Once you're at ground level even the odd bush and tree can quickly dissipate the wind strength.
My (aborted) 30 mile ride tonight across the fens saw my front wheel taken from me twice, such was the force of the wind.
When i got home the details from my home weather station showed gusts of
only 30mph (at 7.30pm):
Temp Falling:6.1c Humidity:69% Dewpoint:0.8c Wind:SW 23.0mph Gust:29.8mph.
Do you not commute on a tall bike like everyone else :-)
Next time @wisbechweather shows wind like that ... i'll take the mountain bike.
