After the discussion on Hi-Viz,this happens...........

Yes I know you can't rely on Hi-Viz.This video proves why.

I just wonder, now I have calmed down after the incident, was this partly my fault?

After incidents I look into why they happened and what I could do different, change.

I have only been using this piece of road regularly for the last six months, since I moved house.

What would you do different?

What did I do wrong?

Cheers.

As far as I can make out you did nothing wrong. The driver did not check his offside mirror by the looks of things, saw the parking space and decided to quickly go for it. A good thing you weren't travelling at speed.

As far as I can see he pulled across the road without signalling and apparently without checking his mirrors. You appear to have avoided actual contact with the car so short of learning to mind read I'm not sure what else you could have done there.

I watched that with bated breath... I was a motorcycle courier in my youth, so I was almost born filtering. I used to grow extra eyes and try to watch everything at once, but you will still get caught out by the odd event.

That car appeared not to indicate. You had a lucky excape there.

On a positive note, despite the lack of an apology, it appears that he pulled over to use a hand-held comms device.... so that is a silver lining for your cloud.

I don't think you did anything wrong - and you did well to miss the car.

A little earlier in the clip you appear to be passing traffic on zigzags. i never do that, but I confess to just believing it's a no-no. I've never bothered to read the rules and see whether it really is. I hope it is, as I've taght my children not to pass on zigzags...

Anyway, well done for avoding a bent wheel. It looked pretty close on the video.

I don't think you did anything wrong - driver didn't look.

Hey - I like the way you took it so cool and calm, and followed his line across the road to a safe stop. Me? I'd probably have emergency stopped, shouted a few "sweet nothings" ....... and be left standing in the middle of the road.

Thanks for your comments, still having nightmares about this one,not my favourite bit of road. That bit of road up to Leytonstone used to intimidate me a bit.

I did actually have a go at the driver but he left his window up,but apart from a few words I didn't do anything else.Im not really a hard man (although I was fuming at the time).:B)

An apology would be nice but I just wonder if the driver had a clue what he did.

By the way I was riding the fixie so had instant access to the brakes, luckily for me.

Under the letter of the law, it is fine for a cyclist to pass on zig zags.

I wasn't sure about that and was a bit uneasy, thanks.I thought it was just easier to go,considering the position I was in on the road I was on.It's funny, after the (Hi-Viz) thread im not really surprised this happened.

Thanks for all you kind and constructive comments, they will help me move on from this one.

Yeah, I'm not sure it would have helped here, too little time to react. Maybe, so I won't dismiss it.

Miquel, please tell us you roadsafed this? I'd like for that driver to learn about his mistake so he doesn't repeat it, maybe with a less experienced or careful rider than yourself and ends up knocking a cyclist or motorcyclist off.
