I'm not sure if this is a naughty or not. There was a blue van at the lights behind me, so rather than shouting through impatience it was a shout, warning that traffic was coming (nobody looked our way before crossing). But could/would it have been misconstrued by the pedestrians?

When you set off the traffic light to your offside was still red. The black car ran the red as it changed and as a result the people wanting to cross the junction were led into a false sense that it was safe to cross. Had either of you waited for the proper sequence of lights no one would have needed to shout expletives at complete strangers.

Bigsharn, it seemed like you were too busy counting down rather than observing the light was still at red, etc. If you'd waited for it going green you probably wouldn't have came into conflict at all anyhow there was no need to shout just ease up on the pedals.

Most cyclists do, at least when riding uprights. I don't look down very much on my recumbent.

I didn't say that at all. I just said that most cyclists do look down regularly. If you haven't seen this amongst other cyclists, then you've perhaps not been very observant.
I'm sure you're always pleasant in real life, but on here I think you have a long track record of making argumentative and destructively critical posts without taking time to be pleasant to other posters.
