One of my uncles rode in the same club as Tom Simpson - who once went out with one of my aunts.
Presumably, in a parallel universe, my Uncle Tom was the first Brit to have won the Tour!!

dad was a commuter cyclist when he was younger. passed driving test nearly 30 and promptly stopped riding. only ever saw him ride my bike as a kid once. have a pic of his maniacal grin as he is riding between some cones. mum never rode as far as I can remember but apparently was really fast on her sit up and beg bike according to my uncle.

I hope i have passed my love of bikes to my kids

Both my parents cycled, mother commuting to work and father touring up to about 1,500 miles at a time.

When I was a child mom still rode to work but dad had bought a car to carry the family around and his cycling lapsed.

My first bike was his old touring bike, though I can't remember the make.

Both parents lived long healthy lives, no doubt partly helped by a cycling lifestyle. Dad died last year aged 97.

One of his last comments was his regret that he wasn't going to get to a hundred so he could send his telegram back !

Sort of - my Dad's brother was a very keen cyclist. He'd just hop on his bike and go "walkabout" for days on end around North Wales - sleeping under hedges, scrounging food wherever he could and singing for the odd pint or three.

I don't actually remember my dad cycling, by the time he met my mum he was in the RAF and had found a love of motorbikes of the BSA and Norton variety. I do remember him giving me his bike when I was tall enough and it was the best thing ever (aged 14). He helped me with the maintenance, And swapping the components over to the Holdsworth when we got that frame second hand.

Somehow I have managed to forget lots of what he taught me, except cotter pins which none of current my bikes have! One of my sons is into athletics and the other is bone idle, but I'm working on him!

My daughter won't go on a bike as last time she did she went over the handlebars and used her face and teeth as a brake, nothing that a dentist and time could fix
