Did You Wear Glasses As A Child?

Since about six - thankfully my parents paid a bit so I didn't have to wear the free NHS round ones with wrap around ear pieces.

A warning about laser surgery if you are short sighted (well, just something to bear in mind before deciding...)

I am shortsighted. Now I am nearly 50 I am also getting age-related long-sightedness (presbyopia, I think the technical term is - i.e. my arms are getting too short!). However because I am short-sighted I can still read without my glasses. If I had had laser surgery this would no longer be the case.

I suppose whether you think that is important depends on whether or not you like reading in the bath!

Lucky you, I had no choice on curly earred frames.

The rest sounds familiar too. I now can't read with contacts in, which means if I go hillwalking in the rain, the choices are, misted glasses: can't see where I'm going but can read the map or contacts and can see but can't read the map.

Something I've often wondered. How do they decide what perscription to use for a 2 yo? With someone older, they ask you to read letters but for someone too young to read or not able to read, how do they do it?

All I remember is going on a machine that I had to put a dog into a kennel.

Ditto - but I wear my contacts and carry a cheap (like <£5) pair of reading glasses in the cag pocket which can be put on for map reading. I look like some ancient schoolmarm, but I don't get lost! And it's not the end of the world if I lose the glasses, or sit on them...

(And the little magnifier on my compass is quite handy, too!)

I'll have to give in and get some from Boots then. Never thought about the magnifier, I knew it must have a use. ;)

I began wearing glasses at around 2yo and even had to wear patches on one eye from time-to-time until I was about 12:sad:

Had a bit of stick but it wasn't too bad.

Still wear glasses today and my only concern now is "Do they make me look just a little bit TOO handsome?";)

Yup! Brown or black wire frames. Looked like the Milky Bar Kid!
Got an eye test later and didn't need them?
My arms aren't long enough to manage without readers now though!

Not until I turned 50. Hate having to wear prescriptions on the bike and deal with rain smeared and fogged lenses, but can't stomach the idea of contacts or surgery.

I use Bolle Paroles with prescription inserts.
