My best friend had a blue pair, with a pink sticky plaster over the one lens, poor sod.

Also, IIRC, you were not only picked on for wearing glasses BUT having NHS ones, you were looked at as 'mommy and daddy's got no money'. :biggrin:

Oh yes, I remember that well :biggrin:

Oh the joys of glasses- had to wear them from probably about 7-8 not quite sure of times- just remember having to go to hospital for special eye tests which were a big deal and getting those horrible eye drops which made everything bright and unbearable. The glasses were pretty horrid, even up to 17/18 my glasses were not very nice due to cost (rare prescription means that my lenses cost a small fortune).

Still wear glasses now in downtime - would be blind as a bat without them but have contacts these days. Every time I get my eyes tested the prescription nudges a little bit further. I do wonder what it would be like to wake up and have perfect 20/20 vision...

It would mean you'd been bitten by a spider and can also climb walls.

:biggrin::biggrin:very good

My middle son wears glasses, he's nearly 12 and has been wearing them for about 5 years. Seems to have gone quite well and the choices are vastly superior to the stuff I remember from school. He's also tried contacts and wears them sometimes but didn't really take to them. When he's old enough we plan on paying for laser surgery if that's what he desires. My wife is as blind as a bat without glasses or contacts, the other two, plus me, are so far glasses free. Though I expect I will reach a stage where my arms aren't long enough for reading:biggrin:

What I can't understand is why my cousin, who has perfect eyesight, wears glasses with plain glass in them as it's fashionable. I wear glasses everyday because I'd be a health and safety hazard without them. If I didn't need glasses, I can assure you, I wouldn't wear them to be fashionable.

I started at that age. A few tips....

Get him a spare pair and dont be tough on him if he breaks them. I went through childhood scared that I would break glasses and if I did I had to wear the previous pair while they were mended.

Dont tell him he will be able to stop wearing them when he gets older! I was told this (long sight improves as he grows up and the eye gets bigger) but unless it will only correct itself if it is fairly mild.

Steer him to activities he can do while wearing glasses not to those he will have problems with. Rugby is out but not many other sports.

I hate the childhood photos of me in glasses but there are some from times like swimming with me not wearing glasses. Take photo of him without glasses when you can. Glasses do tend to dominate the face.

Been lucky in our family, hardly anyone wears glasses, but my granddaughter had to wear them from about 4 (she's 6 now)...for corrective purposes, apparently she'll maybe not hav to wear them permanently.
She does'nt mind at all, although she's broken a couple of pairs.

At 50+ i've never had to wear them, but i tried someone elses on the other week :wacko::ohmy::ohmy: Mind blowing, everything was so clear !!!!!

Maybe have to book myself in methinks...

Yep. Fun days :sad: Mine were pink. Now I wear contact lenses and have glasses as backup/rest day options.
