Beware of those catfish - two pretty ordinary plec's would be too many in 54 litres.

There are all manner of catfish - maybe you've seen some small corydoras which do stay quite small. Plecostomuses (plecostomi? heck, now I started something) would seem small in the shop but they grow big!

It be a fair generalisation to say catfish "sit on the bottom of the tank eating algae" but not all do - have a search round http://www.thinkfish.../community.html they describe sizes and behaviours.

Today we got our water testing kit and a heater. Should be ready to go with the fish just as soon as I get back from my mums on Saturday.
