Well I'm happy to report that the pro4 on the back has had the desired effect, and on my ride to work this morning I did not hear a single piece of grit being dragged under the mudguard, despite riding down a couple of muddy farm tracks. You can't really see the red stripe on the rear tyre as the mudguards are full length, so I'm just gonna leave it as is.

Might post a pic later just to offend the eyes of some of you purists

Performance wise- Disagree , whatever is the optimal size on the rear must be smaller on the front when you take the weight/rolling resistance and aero into the equation !
Google Sheldon's item on it, its all academic really but some prefer it the other way (wide front/ narrow rear), I think the arguement is better control, others argue as you do (6 of one v half a dozen of another ).

Hi,

Some prefer a fatter tyre on the front for more front suspension, I'm currently
running a 30mm rear and 32mm front. Aero is not an issue for most people.
I don't run them at the same pressure, the front is a lot lower.

rgds, sreten.
