I've been looking at Dawes (super) Galaxy bikes and I see that one is a full frame and the other a compact. Can someone tell me what the difference is?

Or have I misread the information?

I'm looking for a bike which will be comfortable on commutes and one that can easily accommodate a child seat on the back. I'm interested in the foot clearance so I don't catch the child seat (something I do on my MTB).

I had a Dawes Super Galaxy and now I have a 2 x Dawes Audax, make of that what you want.

1. Dawes is a brand that you trust and can identify with.

2. You either like the Dawes Audax twice as much as the Super Galaxy or the Super Galaxy is twice as reliable as the Audax.

Am I close?

Your Super Galaxy gave birth to twins, and then ran off with the paperboy's mountain bike?

There is little difference between compact and horizonantal top tubed frames.

People talk of increased stiffness and lower weight of the compact. But bear in mind the driving force behind the switch to compact frames was the manufacturers deciding they could make fewer sizes to fit everyone.

But the main difference is that one design looks far superior (although individuals will argue about which one is the best).

As far as Dawes goes, you may want to do a search to see previous threads that have argued about Dawes build quality. Having said that, those of us who have either a Dawes Galaxy, SG or UG or Audax seem pleased with them.

1) First bike was a Dawes many years ago. Some barsteward nicked it.I was 13.

2) Frame fracture on the first Super Galaxy and they replaced it then the brakes became crap so I scrapped it.Audax is more or less suited to what I want to use it for.Bought a second because I was impressed with the first one.It has done 4000 miles now.
