It depends what they want to do with the pics. If you're never going to blow them up past 10x8 then 5mp is all you need.
I suppose when we were using film you took a medium fomat camera on holiday with you?

Trouble is we don't have much choice these days. If you want to benefit from the latest worthwhile hardware and software technology you have to take it as it comes.
I just bought a 10Mp compact camera ( £89.00) because i needed the largest possible screen (3") for composing and editing without having to carry reading glasses on a bike ride.It also comes with 5x zoom which is useful .
My most used camera is a only a humble 5Mp Finepix S5600 about 3 years old but it still takes pictures of a quality far beyond my photographic skills
