Hi
I have a father/child floor lamp. It takes a G9 bulb and an R7S
I have just bought one of each from amazon. Both LED and they both flicker when dimmed 👎
They were pretty cheap.
Is it possible to get these bulbs as LED where they don't flicker? Does it mean spending a bit more money?
Or is it just better to look for halogen bulbs. I'm not really worried about energy efficiency as the light isn't on too much
thanks

I can only speak for complete ceiling lights but assume the same principle applies.
I have recently had 2 led ceiling light fitted and looked into dimmer switches. The led lights have to be specifically for dimmers. If they're not you will get flickering or complete failure.

LED lamps need to be the dimmable type if being used with a dimmer. Any dimmer switches also need to be LED dimmer specific ones, the older ones used for halogen lamps won't work.

This. They have to be specifically designed for dimming or be operated by a separate control circuit.

Were the original bulbs incandescent/halogen by any chance?

I have some Philips WiZ lamps. They are dimmable and allows colour and variable white so you can select warm (2200K) to cool white (6500K). Controlled by the WiZ app. I'm not sure if you can use dimmer switches with them though. You can set timers and also have the lights automatically change to, say, a warmer colour later in the evening. Apparently having a warmer light before bed is better than a cooler one.

Just be aware dimmable LED lamps and smart versions can make an audible buzzing noise, especially the cheaper ones. The noise is not loud just audible if you hone in on the noise frequency.
