The deleterious effects of dogs on human health: 2. Canine zoonoses

D. N. Baxter

Department of Community Medicine, University of Manchester

Professor I. Leek, Department of Community Medicine, University of Manchester, Stopford Building, Oxford Road, Manchester Ml3 9PT.

As part of a general review of the epidemiology and control of human health hazards connected with dogs, the distribution and behaviour in dogs and humans of the canine infections and infestations that are actual or potential causes of human disease have been examined. In England and Wales, it is estimated that dogs may be responsible each year for the onset in humans of approximately 31000 episodes of wound sepsis involving Pasteurella multocida, 16000 Toxocara infestations, 13000 enteritis episodes (mainly involving Campylobacter) and 9000 episodes of ringworm, as well as an indeterminate number of anthropod infestations. Much less human disease of other kinds seems to be acquired from dogs.

So Camphlyobacter demonstrates pathogenic bacterial transmission too.

Well, it's been a fascinating evening everybody!

We've had more than a few savages defecate on my station platform or in the lifts. I hate having to call the cleaner for things like that.

Have just skimmed through this dirty thread and just in case no one has said it "If you polish a turd it will still be a turd."

"When the sh1t hits the fan"

Oh the irony of the OP being a dog owner. I guess what goes around comes around so to speak.

...except that it doesn't come around from the OP's dog.

...but the irony of a dog treading in human poo is pretty much inescapable!

I think-and this is just my personal take on this-that as you are obviously not a dog person, and have not experienced anything that the thread is actually about, that you leave it at this now. It has been upsetting enough for Snapper without people jumping at her for reasons that are totally and utterly irrelevant to anything.
When anyone posts a thread about their kids trainers getting poo on them you can join in that one.

The problem is, Alecs wasn't accusing Snapper of anything, or "jumping at her". He was merely pointing out the irony of a dog getting covered in human shite. Which is ironic, you have to admit. As Alecs himself pointed out, you can appreciate the irony of a situation without approving of it.

This thread is shoot.;)

I feel for you Snapps, I really do. But I also can't help thinking that probably someone just got caught short and couldn't help themselves. (as someone who once pooed on their aunties back step , aged 6, I have some experience of such things...)
Horrible, but not malicious.

I've crapped in a carrier bag before now, when parked up overnight in my lorry. It's not nice.:o)
