I have got mechanical disc brakes on my bike (new in August) and the other day the brakes (front) were a bit rubbish. When I had a closer look the spring between the pads (these are the kind of rectangular ones, rather than the round ones) was completely mangled. It is supposed to resemble something like a wide tuning fork or pair of tongs. I replaced it with a spare and when i looked again today it seems pretty mangled again. Anyone else had this happen to them?

I suspect something's not fitted right or catching, as all these really do is hold the pad in place.

The spring is catching on the rotor. Either its not been fitted properly or the pads are completely worn.

Sounds like faulty assembly. If new in August it's presumably under warranty so I should return it for replacement ( the bike or the caliper assembly).

Have you replaced the pads, if the pads are worn down the spring wil snag on the rotor. Could call it a safety feature. 😄
