Disc specific wheels

This might be a stupid question (why do all my posts start like this!?), but if I wanted to get some new wheels for an upgrade on my disc brake equipped cx bike, do I have to get disc specific wheels, or will any old wheels do?

Disk specific.

The hub must be able to take the rotor so you need wheels with disc hubs.

Just to add to that, you can buy disc specific rims but they are not necessary and you can lace a regular rim to a disc hub.

So, just to clarify, if I found a pair of normal wheels, I would then need to swap hubs and that would be it?

Swapping hubs usually means new spokes as the hub dimensions are likely to be different from any new ones you get. Which basically just leaves you with a set of rims.

That's right, it doesn't make sense economically speaking.

If you're happy to ride without brakes then a normal wheelset might work.........
