I had a similar experience today.
I was cycling at a reasonable speed and passed another cyclist. He appeared to be a senior citizen, at least 20 years older than me, look like a very experienced cyclist in touring bike. Then came a hill, I had to slow down. The senior citizen cyclist that I passed few minutes ago over took me and said, "It is a nice day for cycling, you all right son"

Taking advantage of the lovely weather today and slight breeze, I was very happy with myself, cruising at 20mph. Suddenly, with no warning, another cyclist just flew past me as if I was standing still and disappeared in the distance. I was stunned and felt deflated, so much so that my speed dropped right down. It is not often that I can ride , what I consider fast for my age, at 20 mph! Oh to be young again, wishful thinking.

Meh, I wasn't that good today ;)

I was out trundling along with the missus on our hybrid bikes today when a guy on a sexy looking Colnago with all the gear came steaming past and I took off after him.
I started to gain slightly and then thought he doesn't have the hammer down and if he did I'd have no chance anyway so I slowed and rejoined the missus!!

Ain't middle age a bitch!!

When I glimpse a much quicker cyclist behind I instinctively slow down and start to cycle one handed and feel about in my back pockets as though I can't get something out, either that or turn off if possible denying them the scalp!
doesn't work so well when you are dressed in black lycra top to bottom and day glo orange cycling jersey on top with cycling shorts with a glowing bit on them on the bottom half, like me! oh and if you ride a cube or something else like that you can't really pretend not to be a cyclist!

If I'm out alone I will sometimes speed up to catch up other cyclists so as to pass the time of day. I've got to know a few regulars around my patch that way.

If I'm out with my usual cycling buddy he accelerates when he sees other cyclists because he's competitive.

Be consoled that cruising at 20 mph you would pass me as if I were standing still. I doubt I would even have seen the person who went past you.

The only time I see other cyclist round here is when they are coming to wards me and most of the time it's when I'm pushing on a hill climb they are free wheeling down the way lol

I missed the gap in the weather on Sunday as I had to work. Was gutted and all my fellow staff members taunted me all day

Ha, that's usually me struggling uphill.
I am sure there will be plenty more nice cycling days to come

I get blitzed regularly because I am a plodder, however, I can plod uphill nearly as fast. On the rare occasions that it all comes together, catching up a speedster and passing on a climb, whilst making sure to nose breathe only, makes my day.
