I once got passed by a guy on a full on racing bike who said something like "slow coach" as he went past. I did have the kids trailer on the back mind (steel framed with a 2 and 4yr old in it). It was a flat road so I put the hammer down caught him and passed him. The look of surprise on his face was worth the sore legs alone.

Just remember that some guys who race might just be beginning to stretch their legs after a winter of base training as as such might be doing specific sessions of max power/speed.

Taking advantage of the lovely weather today and slight breeze, I was very happy with myself, cruising at 20mph. Suddenly, with no warning, another cyclist just flew past me as if I was standing still and disappeared in the distance. I was stunned and felt deflated, so much so that my speed dropped right down. It is not often that I can ride , what I consider fast for my age, at 20 mph! Oh to be young again, wishful thinking.

A few years ago, when I was faster and more competitive, I overtook a guy who was wearing all the gear, said hello and pushed as hard as I could, I didn't look round in case it showed that I was being competitive or even concerned. Half a mile down the road, when I was blowing hard, he pootled past me, whistling a tune! Now that is disheartening. I'm not competitive any more .........

20mph is my maximum cruising speed on a flat. Im not even 30 or fat. When you say "Oh to be young again" that implies your actually quite an old git:tongue:, which is disheartening for me given that im still young.

I am a unbelievably fit and always travel at high speed when cycling. Quite frankly no one could ever overtake me if I didn't let them. I am however a decent sort and hate to belittle the achievements of my inferiors so, if I detect a cyclist anywhere near me, especially behind, i low right downso they can overtake me.
I see it as a public service type thing, I make people happy whilst looking (cunning disguise) like an over weight, middle aged, lolloping idiot. If only they knew the truth..............
So, you actually travel at "Hi!" speed?
