Our dishwasher has recently developed this intermittent fault where sometimes you open it in the morning and all is well, but sometimes when you open it there's a puddle in the bottom.

I've googled and come up with various suggestions, mostly dividing into blocked or dodgy pump or kink/blockage in the outlet hose. I've checked the pump and it looks fine. I've checked the hose, and it looks fine too. And the thing that's really baffling me is the intermittent bit. I would've thought that the pump/hose either was or wasn't dodgy - not dodgy one day, fine the next.

I know the obvious answer is to call in the engineer, but I'd rather avoid an £80 bill for something I could do for myself. Anyone out there have any ideas?

Many thanks.

have you cleaned the filter? On ours sometimes stuff gets pas the first stage and slows the flow resulting in said puddle

Ours gets a bit blocked if we don't clear plates thoroughly. I have to undo a little bit of plastic under the metal filter thingy, poke the pump impeller and reassemble. I then run it on the hottest setting a couple of times. HTH.

Have you run one of those cleaner thingies through it?
Maybe there's a bit of grungy residue built up in the pipework.

Have you googled it? We've saved a fortune using Google to work out how to fix stuff.

Thanks. Yup, like I say, it seems to basically point to either the pump or the outlet hose, but as far as I can see both are fine.

Oops - sorry, missed the cleaner thingies message. Not sure what a cleaner thingy is, but I've never used one. What are they? Are they good?
