We had a dishwasher fire last night... i was knackered, and had gone to bed early... Mrs F was sitting up in bed reading, and the lights all fused... she ummed and aahed about getting me to go reset the fuse (easier for me to reach) and finally did. Thank the lordy she did, as I went down to a kitchen starting to fill with smoke, coming from the (inbuilt to wooden cabinets) dishwasher!!! Opened it, turned it off, turned its plug off, and poured water on the still burning bits of wooden door and melting paint, which was dripping onto wooden floor.
It has (had) a wooden door (same as cabinets) the back of which is burned, and it has a hole burned in it too.
Smoke alarms possibly didn't go off as nearest one in hall way, and kitchen door was shut.
Another 10 mins I reckon and the wooden worktop would have gone up....
So losing bits of today's work by dealing with insurance company, getting quotes etc ... but it could have been a whole bunch worse!!!
We hadn't actually used dishwasher for 2 years... it stopped working, and didn't want to afford a new one. So a guy came and had a look, fitted new power unit just a month or so ago... got him coming again on Monday to have a look... I was careful not to blame his part, but you never know...
