DIY bike anchors

One of my neighbours made himself a bike anchor by pouring some concrete into a bucket, and putting a heavy bike chain into it before it set. I'm thinking of doing the same. Anyone know how to make concrete?

In the past I was told to use 1part cement, 2parts sharp sand, 3parts gravel to make some solid concrete steps, which I guess would be the same kind of consistency needed for making a solid block in the ground.

A tip would be to fold some steel coat hangers up into a tangle and put these in the hole before filling with concrete & anchor point - they will act as cheap but effective steel reinforcing.

Buy a bag of ready mix!

Just add water.

For just a bucket full you can nip to B & Q & get a bag of dry mix concrete, which is sand & aggregate mixed with a small seperate bag of cement. Just mix it all together & add a little water

How much would such a bucket weigh when filled with concrete? It's funny how concrete always seems to weigh more than it's component parts of water, cement and sand

Get a small bag of postcrete. It's concrete for fixing wooden or metal posts into postholes. Put the powder in the bucket. Add the chain. Pour on water. Ready in about 15 minutes.

In fact, if you're putting the anchor outside the house - just dig a hole in the ground and use the postcrete there.
