Handsome joe, what if the driver had clipped your bike whilst you were stationary ? After all the bike is only a piece of metal (unless its carbon etc etc) They are designed to be used day in day out.

What you have to appreciate that is after the purchase of a house a car is the 2nd most expensive thing you are likely to purchase and accordingly the owner is likely to be upset if someone goes barging past it because they cannot be bothered to wait because there is a lack of space.

but he wouldn't have done because if he treats his car with respect he would have left enough space.

We are each different you think he shouldn't mind and he does and that's fair enough because at the end of the day you were in the wrong to hit it if you did not leave enough space. If he did not leave enough space then you could feel aggrieved and indeed would have done if he had hit your bike.

Surely the real issue here is that a genuine apology with no lasting damage done should be the end of the matter, that's where the guy went wrong. Where you went wrong was not stopping and waiting until there was space to pass by safely. It's not just the car drivers that need to be sensible if we are honest all us cyclists do the odd trick in the interests of not having to stop that 9 times out of 10 we get away with but it's no good griping on the occasion it doesn't work.

If I was walking/cycling/driving or going down the road by any other means, and someone drove into me I would be pissed off, regardless of why & how they did it. You were wrong and not properly in control of your particular means of transport. Accept the rant from the cager, and cycle better in future.

So lets get this straight, you acted impatiently, and as a result you knocked someone's mirror out of position, you got shouted at, you expect everyone to think like you. Is that pretty much what you're saying?

I have had a car clip me while cycling. Yes, its is annoying and frightening. But can i point out a major difference. A car is a ton of metal and a bike is a bike. Maybe i should clip you with both and see if you feel the same. I am sure the driver i clipped felt much more secure than what i felt when i was clipped by a motor vehicle.

You just don't get it do you. Due to your impatience you clipped someones car and can't work out why they were upset.

I would suggest lessons on riding a bike

I am salivating here.......
Before i am hung by my B******* from the nearest tree. Yes, i was wrong by being impatient but i only clipped his mirror and said sorry. But obviously this was not enough for him.

Well you hit his mirror. If someone had hit your mirror would you be happy?
Although really, there isnt a need to go undertaking rows of cars on the left, the right is fine, and i think is much safer.

Are you totally serious lad !

If anyone hit my mirror (sur le velo) it'd be because they want to get in my pants they'd be that bleedin close - no go'an chase whippet round t'field !

I appreciate that people appreciate their cars and don't want any damage. But please just step back a bit. A car is a piece of metal...just like a bike, car, bus, boat or plane. They are designed to be used day in day out.

Well, that's your attitude and you're free to adopt it when dealing with your posessions. Just remember that other folk have a different attitude to their posessions and it's not really up to you to say "look, it's only a car" whenever you clip one in a faintly ridiculous and entirely avoidable filtering incident. For what it's worth, it would take me weeks to even notice if someone damaged my van and I wouldn't mind much when I did notice, but that doesn't mean I can go around treating other people's cars the same way.
