Do I have the heaviest commute bike?

On days like today (cats and dogs) my Go Faster (TM) bike is relegated to the shed and out comes my Ridgeback Tank (a Cyclone with go slower tyres). At work a new set of scales has appeared so I brought the bike in to weigh it. I've known it was heavy, but I wasn't sure exactly how much.

14.6kg! Just over 32 lbs! In fact it is worse than that. I carry my lock on the bike, so that takes it to 16kg or about 35lbs!;)

So does anyone have a heavier commuter? This is why I am still looking for a new (second hand) winter hack!

No, you don't have the heaviest commute bike. Mine weighs in at 17.5kg WITHOUT the water bottle, lock and panniers!

My other bike is 9.5kg, but I prefer riding the 17.5 kg one!!???

Phew! ;) My road bike is just over 10kg and is definitely my preferred ride.

Do you have any hills on your commute CP? It is looking very much like I will be moving house before Christmas (got an offer on ours, yippeee!) and my commute is going to get longer (also yippee!) and hillier (yippe...I think!), so reducing the weight of the bike is a priority!

Yeah I carry a U lock on the rear carrier thingy.

I think mine weighs a ton as well plus extra thick inner tube and armadillo on the front.

Ah, but I thought bents had lots of advantages overs us uprighters...;)

They do, but like any bike they carry disadvantages too. This is the main reason I spent so much money on a Fujin SLII (super light II). Still not as light as a weight weenie superbike, but not bad at all.

Nothing too massive. The profile shows 100 feet of climbing in 2.5 miles, but it feels like a lot more than that.

[now checking ordnance survey]

115 feet of climbing to work, 59 feet on the way home????

Blimey those are some heavy bikes. I thought my winter steed was heavy - fully kitted with lights, rack etc it weighs in at 28.3lb / 12.8kg. Light compared to you guys ;)

How did you manage to covertly get the scales from the bathroom to the shed and once in the shed, your bike and all necessary other bits to carry on the bathroom scales ?

What did Mrs CP say?

"Oi! Mr CP where are you going with those scales?".

:rain:  >>>>> ;)

Or.......

"Oi! Mr CP what are those dirty tyre and grease marks doing on my nice clean bathroom scales?"

 :bicycle: >>> :hugs:

17kg - no wonder everyone passes me ;)

Don't you stand on the scales and weigh yourself, then pick up the bike and take the difference. Works for me when weighing cases before flying.
